A youth mountain bike team?

Imagine mountain biking in a supportive environment focused on having fun, building skills and achieving personal bests.

The Yosemite Composite Mountain Bike Team provides this opportunity to student-athletes in the Mariposa – Yosemite - Oakhurst area.  Yes, mountain biking is a middle and high school sport!  Check out the NorCal High School Cycling League, https://www.norcalmtb.org/, and National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), https://www.nationalmtb.org/, for details.

NICA “composite” teams are open to riders from any public, private or home school.  Please fill out this form JOIN if you are interested

Who may participate?

Student-athletes and adults MUST BE REGISTERED IN THE NICA PIT ZONE to participate in any team event. You may sign a one-time waiver (links below) to do a “test ride” with us. Beyond a “one-time” test ride, student-athletes must be registered with NICA and any adults must be registered as NICA coaches.

Racing is fun!  NICA events are cross country races, there are no downhill or enduro events.  The courses are challenging but beginner friendly.  No prior experience is necessary.  The team will also engage in “off the bike” activities such as trail building.

When do we start?  We host pre-season “fun rides” about once a month from mid-October to December — these are a great opportunity to see what we’re all about and don’t require joining the NICA league. Official practices start in January, and races are held March – May (usually four races per season).

What does it cost?  The cost to join the NorCal league is $60 per student athlete, plus $55 for NICA insurance.  Each race charges a $55 registration fee, you only pay for races you want to compete in.  We will make a strong fundraising effort to help cover these costs for those that need assistance. There are no fees required by our team, all costs are for the local and national leagues.

Volunteers make it happen!  NICA-licensed coaches lead team rides and mentor athletes.  See the NICA site for info about coach licensing.
